About
Hey, I’m Ying 👋
I run engineering teams at Microsoft — been managing humans (and shipping software) for about 9 years now, mostly in cloud and AI. What I’m really into building: large-scale cloud systems that power both humans and the growing zoo of AI agents now showing up to work alongside us. It’s a wild time to be doing this.
The thing that actually drives me is digging. I want to understand why something works — not just enough to ship it, but down to the root. And then I want to take whatever I learned and actually use it. Not just in code either — the same instinct applies to people. Why did that team click? Why did that career conversation land? Why did this one fall flat? Figure it out, then do it better next time.
That’s basically the loop: go deep, pull out the lesson, apply it — to systems, to teams, to how I coach engineers through their next step. Watching someone have an “oh, I get it now” moment — whether it’s about a gnarly distributed bug or their own career — is genuinely the best part of the job. And seeing people grow over time? Even better.
If you want to chat about building cloud platforms for the AI era, growing engineers, or trade theories on why distributed systems are quietly lying to you — find me on LinkedIn. I’m in.
